I like color. Sometimes just one simple clear color and sometimes a whole range of colors. On top of color I like texture and shape: the knobby feel of concretions left in sandstone, the silkiness of polished silver or gold, the shape of a curled up leaf , the myriad shapes of pebbles on the beach. I try to capture and express what I see and feel around me in my jewelry.
Mostly self-taught, I hand-fabricate my jewelry . I do the work myself, often from the very beginning. Collecting the stone and cutting it before designing the actual piece allows me to play with different shapes and sizes, develop new ideas, and make changes whenever I want. Sometimes I alter purchased stones so that they will work for the piece I am creating.
